If you haven’t heard just yet, uber-first base prospect Ike Davis has been called up by the New York Mets and is starting on Monday night.

Here’s a little buzz from the newsies:

The 23-year-old left-handed hitter, rated the organization’s No. 4 prospect by Baseball America, has hit .364 with two homers and three doubles in 33 at-bats for Triple-A Buffalo this season.

The Mets’ 2008 first-round Draft pick (18th overall) impressed during Spring Training, batting .480 with three homers and 10 RBIs in just 12 games. He also hit .341 with four homers and 16 RBIs in 21 games in the Arizona Fall League and was named to the circuit’s All-Prospect Team.

Peter Botte of The New York Daily News -

Davis originally was in Monday’s lineup for Triple-A Buffalo’s home matinee against the Scranton/Wilkes Barre Yankees, but the ballyhooed first-base prospect was a late scratch. He will be called up by the Mets in time for their homestand opener tonight against the Cubs, the Mets confirmed.

After recording two more hits Sunday, the former first-round pick is riding a seven-game hitting streak for the Bisons. He is batting .364 with two homers, three doubles, nine walks and four RBI in 10 games. His .500 OBP is tied for the International League lead.

The Mets designated Opening Day first baseman Mike Jacobs for assignment on Sunday and called up reliever Tobi Stoner to reinforce a depleted bullpen following their 20-inning marathon victory Saturday in St. Louis.
