As I promised yesterday, here are some comments about what I feel are the “middle of the road” catchers. These guys have some similarities where they are all going to be in the .260 to .290 batting average range and in the 15-20 HR range. The only catcher that doesn’t fit into those ranges is Johnny Estrada who will just barely creep into the double digit HR level. These aren’t in order of draft preference, I’ll save that for my catcher list later.

Ivan Rodriguez
Pudge should hit in the .289/.323/.439 range with 15 HR’s. The fact that this is the last guaranteed year of his contract may cause him to raise those numbers, but not by much.

Jorge Posada
Posada will be in the .264/.350/.455 range and approach 20 HR’s.

Ramon Hernandez
Ramon will be near .276/.337/.463 and hit 19 or so dingers this year. Not quite what he showed us in ‘06, but not too shabby either.

A.J. Pierzynski
Look for .278/.324/.427 like numbers and 15-16 home runs from A.J.

Mike Piazza
.265/.339/.460 with 19 HR’s could be on the low side if Piazza plays more now that he can DH as well as sit behind the plate.

Johnny Estrada
Estrada is the only player on this list that won’t reach or exceed the teens in home runs. He’s also the only player with any shot, what-so-ever to hit above .300. I’m not projecting that high, but expect .292/.327/.411 and 10 HR’s from him.

Michael Barrett
.285/.348/.480 with 17 home runs is what to expect from Barrett.

Bengie Molina
Molina might benefit from being the #1 catcher again, but he still set career highs in a few power categories last year, while platooning. I see .283/.320/.428 with 16 home runs in ‘07 for Bengie.
