I was just listening to the Dan Patrick Show in the car and heard Dan speaking with Peter Gammons about the controversy surrounding Dick Vitale’s induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame. Apparently in basketball, you can earn entry into the Hall of Fame as a contributor to the sport (for example the inventor of the 24 second shot clock was inducted).

Patrick and Gammons jokingly started talking about whether or not Daniel Okrent, the inventor of rotisserie baseball, would be a hall of famer if baseball had a category for contributions to the game. It started off as a joking question, but the more they spoke about it, the more it made sense. Then you have to ask yourself, if Okrent and Glen Waggoner get into the Hall, does Bill James belong there? Just some food for thought…
