Every day, over at ESPN SportsNation, they have fantasy baseball chats with some of the experts in the field. Today, at 11:00, the host was Tristan H. Cockcroft and he answer some good questions like:

  • Homer Bailey or Matt Garza?
  • Which SS past the 1st round will provide the most value this season in relation to their current ADP?
  • The NL hitter who will come from nowhere this year to be a stud is ______________?

Also today, James Quintong will be hosting a chat at 3:00. Make sure to check it out.

    i recently traded yuniesky betancort and joe blanton for todd jones and julio lugo…what is your thought on this deal?

  3. Sean Salsbery says:

    Hey Patrick, you picked a pretty old post to ask a question in today, but I found it anyway.

    Not knowing the particulars of your league, I’d say this is a pretty fair deal. Lugo’s better than Betancourt in four of the five usual categories, and Jones is going to get you saves for most of the rest of this year. Zumaya may take over late in the year, but I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Tigers stick with Jones all the way through.

    Blanton is a solid pitcher, but he’s nothing special. This year, you’re probably going to be able to find comparable guys on the wire without much trouble.

    Hope that helps.

    I’m trying to figure what is the best strategy for pitching in a rotisserie scoring league. I have 9 players I can start at any given time

  5. Mike says:

    I need help. I’m a commisioner of a fantasy league and I’m really torn on what to do here. My league plays head to head and in the event of the first tie breaker, it resorts to a 4th selected starting pitcher. Well such an event occured and one team did not have a this SP placed in his lineup, but the opponents SP had -7 points as it turns out. Who gets the win???? I need help
    Mike

  6. Wookie says:

  7. Simon says:

    Hi there. I have Troy Tulowitzki (starting) and Jason Bartlett at SS. But is now the time to trade Tulowitzki while his value is sky-high at a weak position? What SP / 1B / C should I get in return?

  8. Joe says:

    I’m weak at SS and was offered Jimmy Rollins for Matt Cain. My remaining starters(we have to play 5) are Santana, Greinke, Carpenter, Nolasco, and Jurrjens.

    Should I pull the trigger on this trade?

  9. Travis says:

    Draft time is just around the corner and I decided this year to make a big step up in competition league wise. The league is a 8X8 head to head with a bunch of fantasy baseball freaks.
    Scoring looks like this

    Batters Stat Categories: Runs (R), Home Runs (HR), Runs Batted In (RBI), Stolen Bases (SB), Walks (BB), Strikeouts (K), Total Bases (TB), Batting Average (AVG)
    Pitchers Stat Categories: Wins (W), Saves (SV), Strikeouts (K), Holds (HLD), Total Bases Allowed (TB), Earned Run Average (ERA), (Walks + Hits)/ Innings Pitched (WHIP), Quality Starts (QS)

    I picked up the 11th pick in the draft and I’m going to be left with a tough decision in my opinion. I know from talking to everyone in the league where I’ll be sitting when the 11th pick comes. The first RD so far from everything i gather will be

    * 1. Albert Pujols
    * 2. Hanley Ramírez
    * 3. Álex Rodríguez
    * 4. Chase Utley
    * 5. Ryan Braun
    * 6. Matt Kemp
    * 7. Prince Fielder or Evan Longoria
    * 8. Tim Lincecum
    * 9. Joe Mauer
    * 10. Roy Halladay

    Leaving me with ( either Fielder or Longoria, Cabrera, Howard, and Texeira ) to pick from. If Longoria falls it’s an easy first two picks I take Longoria and see which of the 3 stud 1st baseman falls to my 2nd RD 14th pick (probably Howard and Cabrera). If Longoria’s not there at 11 (which I’m guessing will be the case) I’m stuck with 4 Stud 1st basemen at the 11th (Fielder, Tex, Howard, Cabrera) and at least 2 more at the 14th pick (probably Howard and Cabrera).

    My thought is to take the best 2 players available to me in the first 2 rds regardless of position if Longoria doesn’t fall to me. That would probably give me Howard and Fielder which would give me a ton of offense in the first 2 rds. Should i reach for somebody i think is a mid 2rd pick like Kinsler, Crawford, Holliday, Ellsbury or take the best 2 players available.

    Thanks

    T

  15. Ed says:

    Hello:

    I play in an NL-only, 5×5 league. We use an auction for the first 15 players, then a serpentine draft to fill out the rosters. We each have $300 to spend for the auction, minus any money we spent on keepers.

    The league allows up to four keepers per team.

    If you were me, which four (or fewer) players would you keep from this list? (Note: The amount shown after each player is the amount it will cost me to keep him.)

    Thanks for your help,

    Ed

    • Aubrey Huff $2
    • Will Venable $11
    • Shane Victorino $36
    • Andrew McCutcheon $33
    • Bronson Arroyo $11
    • Heath Bell $29
    • Tim Hudson $25
    • Huston Street $ 9

    P.S. As a guide, in our league, Albert Pujols always goes for the most money, generally about $60, and $29 (for Heath Bell, for instance) is about as much as anyone pays for a closer.

  16. Ritch says:

    Trade advise needed. I play in a 10 team 5×5 points H2H baseball league.

    My closer Ryan Franklin just blew up on me. The closers I have left are H. Bell and B. Lyons and Sean Marshell as my holds guy. As you can except the other owners are coming out with trade offers. The Offer : JJ PUTZ and Alex Gonzolez SS for Zack Britton and Steven Drew. I have Britton sitting in my minors slot right now.

    My question is am I giving up to much. Again I don’t want to panic and over react.
    Boggs the next St. Louis go to guy is already taken and so is Santos from CWS.

    So… would you make this trade ? I am hesitant.

    Thanks,
    Ritch

  17. George Ron says:

    I need some advice, I currently have C.Jones as my 3B, should I consider getting rid of him for P.Polanco or D.Freese? I am worried about his playing time, but I think that batting third in ATL has value…Freese also should have plenty of RBI opportunities batting in front of Pujols, Berkman, Rasmus, Holliday….What should I do?

    Tks!
