[tag]New York Mets[/tag] 23 year old [tag]starting pitching[/tag] prospect [tag]Mike Pelfrey[/tag] was given some good news yesterday after a not so good outing.

During yesterday’s loss to the Astros, Mike Pelfrey allowed six hits and four earned runs in five innings.

Following the game, Willie Randolph called Pelfrey in to his office to inform the young pitcher he will be part of the team’s five-man starting rotation.

Pelfrey’s fastball is surely big league ready and he should sport a little better than a 2/1 K/BB ratio this season.

In winning the job this spring, Pelfrey pitched 19.0 innings with 5K’s, 2BB’s with a 2.84 ERA. His minor league numbers last year were impressive and lead me to believe that the 2 to 1 K/BB projection could be a little on the low side if he finds a groove early. Pitching in high A, AA and AAA Pelfrey threw 109 K’s with only 33 BB’s in 96.1 innings before being called up late to the Mets.

In both mixed leagues and NL only leagues go ahead and start drafting Pelfrey. He’s going to be getting lots of starts with a playoff contending Mets ballclub. That can only add value to Pelfrey.
