About

I started Crooked Pitch on a whim on March 1, 2007.

Basically, I wanted to join an expert-only fantasy baseball league and I couldn’t gain entry without being a published fantasy writer. So, I grabbed a domain name, a hosting account and started writing. It was all pretty easy.

What wasn’t easy was learning how to write effectively. I made a lot of mistakes (still do) in the early stages. I dangled a few participles, published a few posts without editing and blasted my mouth off when I probably shouldn’t have spoken. But, it was all a learning process, one that continues to this very day.

After a year of flying solo with Crooked Pitch I was hired by Fanball to write a weekly columnĀ  called Trend Spotting. It was a somewhat geeky, statistics heavy article helping fantasy owners spot the next hot thing or the next plummeting player, hopefully before the trend was over. I even had a chance at the end of 2008 to appear in Fanball’s Fantasy Baseball Magazine, prepping fantasy GM’s for the 2009 season. Working for Fanball was my first paid sports writing job, and it was a fabulous experience.

In January of 2009, I was contacted by current employer, AOL Sports, which owns FanHouse. They were going to allow me to take on a much larger role with my fantasy baseball writing (more articles per week) and possibly launch into fantasy football and other area of sports writing.

I’ve since, not only expanded as a writer into fantasy football, but have also written Major League Baseball articles and most recently been credentialed by the Atlanta Falcons to cover their 2009 season for FanHouse.

It’s been an exciting road lately, one that I’m very glad I started driving down in 2007. Thank you for joining me on this ever-evolving journey.
